Nothing beats a good cake, however a not so great cake can ruin your day and probably your love for cake.
To avoid all that, here are some tips on how to choose the best cake and enjoy it too!
There are many different types of cake recipes and many different ways of dividing them into various categories, but at Krumble Cakes & Cookies we have generally classified according to whether or not they contain fat, also known as shortening.
Thus Cakes are either;
- Shortened Cake
- Unshortened Cakes
Also known as butter, conventional, or creamed cakes and are the most commonly prepared types, especially for birthday and wedding celebrations. What these cakes have in common are that they contain some sort of fat - often butter, but sometimes oil - and are mostly leavened by baking powder and/or soda and acid, as well as steam and air.
Commonly referred as lemon, strawberry, marbled chocolate, vanilla, e.t.c
They are good with kids and adult parties
The surface is rounded and free of cracks with uniform color with a thin crust and high volume.
Handles easily, yet breaks apart without difficulty
This is really a no brainer. Soft, moist, light and free of tunnels should all be the highlights of this awesomeness.
Do not accept anything less than delicate and sweet flavoring.
Unshortened /Foam Cakes
These light and fluffy cakes get their lift primarily from eggs and egg whites. Air is beaten into the eggs, which are then folded into the batter. This causes a steam to form in the batter during the baking process, and this causes them to rise

Thin golden brown crust with uniform crumb colour and optimum volume.
Moist!!! Soft crust and crumb which is delicate and can be easily broken apart.
Well aerated and Light in weight in proportion to size .
The cake should be well blended and pleasant.
