Know Your Cake

Nothing beats a good cake, however a not so great cake can ruin your day and probably your love for cake.

To avoid all that, here are some tips on how to choose the best cake and enjoy it too!

There are many different types of cake recipes and many different ways of dividing them into various categories, but at Krumble Cakes & Cookies we have generally classified according to whether or not they contain fat, also known as shortening.

Thus Cakes are either;

  • Shortened Cake
  • Unshortened Cakes

Shortened Cakes

What these cakes have in common are that they contain some sort of fat - often butter, but sometimes oil - and are mostly leavened by baking powder and/or soda and acid, as well as steam and air.

Commonly referred  as  lemon, strawberry, marbled chocolate, vanilla, e.t.c

Unshortened /Foam Cakes

These light and fluffy cakes get their lift primarily from eggs and egg whites. Air is beaten into the eggs, which are then folded into the batter. This causes a steam to form in the batter during the baking process, and this causes them to rise

Some of these cakes are; blackforest, white forest,
